About the Position

Millions of students nationwide lack the access to technology and the skills they need to succeed in the digital world. Since 2012, Verizon has worked to help solve this problem through a transformative program called Verizon Innovative Learning. Digital Promise collaborates with Verizon to partner with middle and high school leaders, coaches, teachers and students across America by providing technology, access, technical support, and comprehensive professional learning, and to support technology integration in classrooms and to advance digital equity.

Reporting to the Director, Learning Community & Partnerships, the Project Director of Community Events will be charged with co-developing and executing the Digital Equity team’s community strategy and roadmap while tending to the day-to-day community operations and administration. This role serves as the direct contact for the national community events strategy. Collaboration with cross-functional leadership within the Learning Design and Delivery Department as well as across the larger Digital Equity team will be key to achieving the long-term, mid-term, and short-term goals.

Responsibilities

Overall

  • Create and implement a strategic roadmap highlighting new and existing Digital Equity community events with the goal of centering collaborative learning, increasing learner engagement, and expanding attendance.

  • Take a leadership role in creating, sustaining, and scaling a vibrant digital equity community with a focus on in-person and virtual events.

  • Project manage end-to-end planning and logistics, learning design, execution, and post-event follow-ups for large scale community events (in-person and virtual)

  • Coordinate a collaborative and inclusive design process with instructional designers, facilitators, subject matter experts, and curriculum writers to participants in events

  • Co-develop and manage a community management plan in coordination with Project Director of Community Networks and Project Director of Events and Engagement Operations

  • Stay at the forefront of industry trends to benchmark, understand, and create a best-in-class inclusive community event implementation

  • Collaborate cross-team to develop and maintain an annual community calendar of in-person and virtual events aligned to the Digital Equity Competencies, and learner journeys for VILS learners when appropriate.

  • Continuously gather feedback to shape community event management practices and product/project ideation

  • Identify themes, problems of practice, or opportunities in the community events and set up a process to share with the internal stakeholders to take action

  • Create regular community event reports in coordination with the Research Evaluation and Design Department helping the team understand the results of a strategy, specific program, or event. Use data to drive insights and translate these insights into growing and improving the community

  • Collaborate across teams and with subject matter experts to ensure content for events is up-to-date, relevant, and cutting edge.

  • Coordinate with other Project Director(s) to coordinate learner journey maps in in coordination with Associate Directors of Learning Design and Delivery

  • Represent the voice of the community, audit internal community participation through usage analytics reporting and feedback to provide updates and recommendations to leadership

  • Recruit, motivate and inspire internal stakeholders to become active contributors to the community events and network

  • Provide ongoing facilitation to connect and guide community members to create a vibrant and engaging community

  • Design Employee Engagement programs (like an annual Career Day) and facilitate schools as they sign up and take part in Employee Engagement events; communicate with Verizon counterpoints, leverage established portals and processes, and report on activity quarterly

Reporting

  • Identify and track key performance indicators related to content that measure progress toward the achievement of initiative goals and elements of success

  • Support in the collection of data and generating of reports on the progress of leaders, coaches, schools, etc.

  • Provide vital insights and reporting across the program for Verizon, Digital Promise, school leadership, and programming

  • Assist with measuring the return on investment of learning and development

Initiative Implementation

  • Work with peers to plan and host virtual and in-person convenings for school leaders, teachers, and students

  • Connect with colleagues in other Digital Promise initiatives to share best practices

  • Think, work, and plan sequentially toward initiative outcomes, constantly managing multiple deadlines and needs of different stakeholders

  • Conduct on-site visits if needed

  • Other duties as assigned

Education Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree or 5-7 years of experience in marketing, business, education, technology, or relevant field of study

Additional Skills

Overall

  • Experience in the edtech industry is a plus.

  • Direct professional experience working in K-12 public school districts is preferred.

Communication

  • Skill in articulating and conveying value propositions to gain agreement, support, and/or buy-in from stakeholders

  • Skill in using communication strategies that inform and influence audiences

  • Skill in applying principles of active listening, such as focusing on what someone is saying, deferring judgment, and responding appropriately

Learning Sciences

  • Knowledge of theories and models of adult learning, such as Knowles’ Adult Learning Theory, Bloom’s Taxonomy, Gagne’s Nine Levels of Learning, Mager’s Criterion-Referenced Instruction Approach, social and collaborative learning, and experiential learning

  • Knowledge of the foundational learning theories of social constructivism,

  • Knowledge of the principles and applications of cognitive science for learning

  • Knowledge of communication theories and models and how they relate to learning

  • Knowledge of a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences and understanding of the learning needs and interests of diverse populations

Project Management

  • Knowledge of project management principles and processes, such as scheduling, planning, allocating resources, evaluating, and reporting

  • Skill in coordinating the logistical tasks associated with planning meetings

Technology

  • Knowledge of functions, features, limitations, and practical applications of the technologies available to support student learning experience and program management (i.e., Asana, Microsoft & Google suites, Salesforce, Qualtrics, etc.)

Future Readiness

  • Knowledge of techniques to promote, support, and/or generate innovation and creativity, such as design thinking, brainstorming, and ideation

  • Knowledge of emerging learning technologies and support systems

Emotional Intelligence and Decision Making

  • Skill in identifying personal biases that influence one’s cognition and behavior

  • Knowledge of decision-making models, such as consensus-based, democratic, and autocratic

Cultural Awareness and Inclusion

  • Knowledge of approaches to encourage and/or promote workplace/community diversity and inclusion

  • Knowledge of methods and techniques to foster cultural awareness, encourage cultural sensitivity, and broaden viewpoints

Evaluating Impact

  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative data collection methods, techniques, and tools, such as observations, interviews, focus groups, surveys, and/or assessments

Lifelong Learning

  • Skill in acquiring new knowledge through professional development activities for one's self, such as participating in coaching, attending professional conferences, self-directed reading, and monitoring industry trends

  • Skill in developing, maintaining, and leveraging networks across a range of people and groups inside and outside the organization, such as influential people and learning and performance experts

Working Conditions:

Digital Promise Global is a hybrid organization. Employees are expected to travel at least 4 times a year for in-person meetings and the annual staff retreat. Additional travel may be required based on role and responsibilities.

Compensation

We consider candidate experience and location when determining where a candidate may fall within that range. Digital Promise Global offers a competitive total rewards package including coverage of 85% of health insurance premiums for employee coverage and 75% of health insurance premiums for dependent and family coverage, 15 vacation days, 12 sick days, 3% 401k employer contribution, 3% employer 401k match, and a flexible work environment.

The full-time salary range for the Project Director, Community Events position based on geographical regions are listed below, with exact salary depending on relevant experience.

California: $125,197 - $136,243

DC Metro Area & NYC: $113,815 - $123,858

National: $102,434 - $111,472
